Choreography Competitions

The Academy encourages creativity through its Choreography Competitions.

The last competition was held on Sunday 14th December 2008 in the Main Hall of Brookfield School from 11am to noon.

Competition Rules:

  1. Maximum two dances per competitor.
  2. Dances choreographed must be the competitors' own work.
  3. Time limits and age groups must be adhered to.
  4. The music for each dance must be on an individual tape, clearly marked with Name(s), Category and Section.  Tapes must be handed to the sound desk at least 15 minutes before the competition starts.
  5. Decisions of the Adjudicator(s) are final.  No discussion or correspondence concerning decisions will be entertained.
  6. Communication with the Adjudicator(s) concerning any matters relating to the competition by competitors or other interested parties before, during or after the competition is strictly prohibited.
  7. Closing date for all entries is Monday 1st December.  Late entries will not be accepted.
  8. All competitors must attend a Dress Rehearsal on Saturday 13th December from 12.30 to 3pm.  A contribution towards Rehearsal costs will be included in the Entry Fee.
  9. Projects (at least 1 side of A4 describing the Dance, Music, Costume & Theme) must be handed to the Principal at least one week prior to the competition.  Late submissions will not be judged.
  10. Flash photography is strictly prohibited during the performances and adjudications.
  11. Video recording is permitted only if prior authorisation is given by the Principal, and then only of your own child's performance.  No recording of adjudications is allowed.
  12. Smoking is prohibited anywhere on the School premises (buildings and grounds).

Categories:

  1. Classical (including Ballet, Character, Greek and Contemporary)
  2. Stage (including Modern, Tap and Song&Dance)

Each category will be divided into three age sections (age is taken from the immediately previous 1st January):

  1. Junior - 9 years and under
  2. Intermediate - 10 to 13 years
  3. Senior - 14 years and over

N.B.  Character and Song&Dance are allowed an extra 30 seconds.
          Fees include a £2 contribution towards the cost of rehearsals.

Fees shown above are 2008 rates (unchanged for the third year).

Spectators:  Adults £3,  6-16yrs and OAP £2,  under 6yrs free.
